What About The Saturdays?

The Saturdays (@TheSaturdays), once the pop-friendly support act of Girls Aloud, have certainly changed for the worse. Six years on, with a number of top ten hits including the brilliantly Yazoo inspired If This Is love and Xenomania's sultry club banger All Fired Up I adore, Frankie, Mollie, Rochelle, Una and Vanessa have been 'Americanized'. Once fun and flirty pop with an electro edge, they've decided to ditch any attempt at former critical acclaim and opt for another dance-y club banger What About Us.

With cringe-worthy Bajan accents laughable to the point of embarrassment, the girls chime in to a sunny themed dance-athon without any discernible glimmer of personality in this hopelessly happy yet boring summer record. While the gorgeous girls sound utterly flawless with little thanks to the magic of auto tune and the up-beat production is island perfection, the club-friendly dance hit is missing something personal off the British fivesome.

Although What About Us is certain to deliver The Saturdays another debatable chart hit, catchy pop for the commercial addicts, the track is nothing but your uninspired par-average club filler. Until these girls understand that not everything is about corny love songs made for grinding on the grimy dance floor of the rainbow gay scene, they'll always be a poor man's Girls Aloud to me.
